Ideology

How does the video challenge or reinforce dominant ideology in Britain?

The video reinforces many ideologies that are in Britain in which are dominant common stereotypes about youths. Some of these ideologies are to be young people in which are violent towards the community and to themselves. This we see in the music video. We also see young people vandalising the community by blowing up and smashing stuff up. This reinforces the stereotype. We also see young youths stealing TVs and electrical products. The video does also challenge the ideologies in Britain, we see an example of this when a middle aged man throws an egg at a politician. This challenges it as it was not a young youth who had violated the politician it was a middle aged man. We also saw the police ganging up on a single person. This breaks the ideology of the police being fare to others and being in the right, as at that moment in time they were in the wrong. This is because five police officers went to strike at a single unarmed civilian. We also encountered on a video footage taken of a police officer punching and assaulting a member of the community.

Dr Who Magazine Analysis

Title of publication:
The title of the magazine is imprinted at the top of the magazine as that’s where all the titles go. The title of the magazine is “doctor who” this typography has been overlapped by the character. This shows to us that the doctor who is a well-known brand series winning loads of awards. This meant that the title does not need to be fully shown as it will be easily recognisable by the audience through its font and colour. The colour of the title is in sliver and along with a futuristic font which connotes fantasy/sci-fi.

Slogan:
The slogan shows that the series has been going on for a very long time, “50” years of filming. The “50 years” has been highlighted and has been structured in a bold font; this may show the audience on how much experience they have had. The colour of the font is gold maybe showing 50 years of success. The slogan in the end has an exclamation mark added to create an exciting effect for the audience making them more enthusiastic and engaged with the magazine, not making it dull and boring.

Central image:
The central image is of three characters in which are the doctors, which may build confusion for the audience. This would create an enigma for the audience as it leaves them with a question to how there are three doctors in the latest series of doctor who. This would make them want to find of why and buy the magazine as it may hold the answer. All three of the characters are all looking towards the camera giving a sense of the characters looking at the audience or the customer who’d want to buy the magazine; this is an example of direct mode of address.

Flash/cover lines:
The flash cover lines that have been used in the magazine are “THE DAY OF THE DOCTOR!”. The word “DOCTOR!” has been capitalised and at the end of the word it’s also included an exclamation mark, this signifies the importance of the doctor as the doctor is the main protagonist in the series. The word connects with the central image as there are three doctors in the image showing that it’s all about these tree protagonists. Giving the audience an idea of what the series may consist of or could potentially foreshadow something about what may happen in future.

Free offer:
The magazine offers a variety of free gifts and items which could potentially lure that audience in and make them buy the magazine through free items, or in this case free downloads.  The magazine also offers free special collector cards with pictures of previous doctors all the way from the 1960s. The magazine also offers an opportunity where someone could win doctor who blu-rays, dvds, books and cds. This yet again tries to lure the audience into buying the magazine through offering free products/items that comes with the magazine itself.

Colour scheme:

The colours in which the magazines have used are black, red, blue and bronze. This would be effective, as through keeping the colours simple and not using any more it would attract the audience as it does not look too tacky. It would create a certain mood so that the audience can sink in to so that they do not get confused of the other colours in which are not necessary. The colour red is mainly used to promote and make the brilliant fantastic offers stand out from everything else. As this is the main thing that would get the audiences attention and interest, this acts as a hook.

Photoshop videos

The first video showed me how i could add gradient to a text and also the pictures on to my magazine covers, in which is very useful. it also showed how i could find different type of fonts in the programme. This included how to glow a text, and also change the shapes and make them in to 3D fonts and sizes and so on. It also showed me how to create a barcode and also the numbers with in it to make the magazine cover look more realistic.
The second video that I viewed was all about showing how to make different type of layers in photoshop including with it effects in which would make the image look more realistic and not fake. more professional and less amateurish. it also showed how i could remove a background with out having to ruin the centre image in which is vitally important as it would be the main eye attraction of the magazine.
