Female Game Developer Was Harassed So Severely On Twitter She Had To Leave Her Home

Brianna Wu who is a female game developer has been recently targeted on twitter and has been receiving threatening messages on Twitter. These messages were sent due to Brianna being a feminist and supporting women in the gaming department. This obviously made someone unhappy about what she was doing. She then was forced to leave her own home so that she feels safe elsewhere. The messages have been censored in the article as the words were inappropriate. She had also received death threats which scared her the most. These messages have been reported and they are looking for the person behind these threats.

  • Took place on saturday 11/10/14
  • Death threats were sent
  • Reason for threats, she was a feminist
What has happened here is a woman has been threatened due to her backing up other females. She is a feminist who supports other females in the gaming industry. Someone did not like this idea so decided to threaten her for her actions. I believe this is wrong and she has acted in the right manner to leave her house as she felt unsafe.

Twitter users in France can now tweet money

Twitter has now announced that in France, Twitter users are now able to send money and transfer money to other twitter users online which has beaten Facebook in person to person transfers. Twitter has recently teamed up with a bank which is based in France, which is ranked the second largest banking group in the whole of France. However the company did not say if they were going to make the transactions private or if other twitter users are able to see the transactions made on-line. Due to this Fcebook feels like they are falling back so have hired former chief executive of pay pal David Marcus to follow up on twitters new approach.

  • Introduced E-commerce
  • Unknown whether transactions will be private
Twitter i believe is moving up and is becoming more optional with the services they provide. I believe that through this method of payments online through twitter people could be easily blackmailed into sending people money.

Trill Evaluation

Trill Evaluation
The brief in which I had selected was that I had to with my group produce the opening of a TV programme. B1 We also had to create some magazine covers and double page spread for the TV programme we made. I worked alongside with Kyle Sondi, Zaid Karim and also Raghuveer Ladwa. We have created an urban teen drama that features myself Armond Shkupi, Kyle Sondi, Maria, Hasan Saeed and Asfyan Khan. The narrative is about a young teenager names Kyle (the protagonist), he has been associating with a street gang and is one of the gang leader’s best mate, Armond. They then get in to an argument and it all goes wrong for Kyle. From this we had to create two minutes of video which would have been broadcasted on the E4 channel. This teen drama would have been broadcasted on the E4 channel as this channel is well known for showing this type of genre series for example “Youngers” and “Top Boy”.

The pre-production I have done has helped me with developing the teen drama. This is due to the fact that I have been researching on the institution. I researched what kind of series that the E4 channel broadcasted; it turned out a majority of the series shown turned out to be teen dramas. I have researched what kind of audience the E4 channel target for these teen dramas. From my research I have found that the primary audience was aged from 15-35. Most of the teen drama series did not show much blood or serious crime, there was only mild violence present due to the pre-watershed regulations. This meant for us that we had to check the Ofcom website in that informed us of what we could and could not show in the production as it would be shown during the pre-watershed. This restricted us in what we could show in the production for example strong violence, guns, prostitution and sex. We had also researched the audience in which we had to target which meant we had to change a few things to make sure it was appropriate for the audience. We had to change tot story line a little bit to make it more epic and thrilling.

The target audience we will be targeting is at 16-35 year olds. The demographics apply to the people in which fall under the E, D and possibly C2. This would be the primary audience as the drama series would apply to those who could relate to the characters in the series.  The characters in the drama series are of a lower class so meaning they would be faced with the same type of problems in life as the audiences, as the primary target audience are all from a lower class. The psychographic groups that would be interested in the drama series would be the mainstreamers, reformers and strugglers. The TV drama series would apply to the strugglers as the drama series is set in an urban populated, working class area. This would back up Blumler & Katz theory as the primary audience would be seeking personal identification with the characters in the drama as they would be able to relate to them. I have chosen mainstreamers as mainstreamers they are the larger group of all as they seek security and diversion. This backs up bloomer and cat’s theory yet again as it states that people who watch television seek surveillance, diversion.  The secondary audience psychographics side would be A, B and C1. These people are of a high class in which have high paid jobs. The drama series would be of an interest to the reformers as they would be curious to find out what today’s society is like and how they would be able to change it. The primary target audience would be interested in fashionable sporty brands like Nike, Adidas, Boost, and Primark. They would like these kinds of products as they are cheap and fashionable. The target audience since they are of a lower class they would not be able to afford expensive clothing like True Religion, Boss, Gucci and Lois Vuitton. They would also like to watch shows like Top Boy, Youngers and west 10 LDN.

One of the key moments in the drama series we have produced is where Armond’s gang are ready to split up to go after Kyle. The costumes that the characters were wearing consisted of dark colours. This meant that the characters were all wearing black clothes so that they seem more suspicious and camouflaged in the night. Here we have used a medium/long shot of the three characters in the drama. The camera was also positioned at a low angle. This helps create tension as it shows to the audience that these are the more dominant, superior characters in the series. This helps the audience identify who is stronger and who is weak. This is shown as in some of the shots where Kyle is walking to his destination; we have used high angle shots. This gives the audience a sense of us looking down up on him making him seem less powerful and weak. During the first couple of scenes we use a soundtrack produced by Professor Green – Jungle. The sound that is going to be used is going to be non-diegetic sound. The sound would also be parallel to what you see visually in the opening sequence. This is a song in which the singer raps about the night and how it terrifying it is with people like Armond and his gang roam about.  Another key moment in the opening sequence is the part where Kyle and Raian come across each other. Here we use various shots of close ups on the both characters faces. This helps the audience identify the feeling and emotions of the characters at that moment in time. Here we use diegetic sound where it’s all natural sound and we can hear the characters dialogue. The mis-en-scene setting was set in an isolated area where no one really walked through. This would have created an enigma for the audience as they would not know what to expect, anything could happen. The lighting in the scenery we used was low key lighting which made everything look more mysterious and gloomy. This would create tension for the audience as the setting is scary let alone the characters in the opening sequence. The pleasures that the audience would get from the opening sequence is escapism, this would be mostly the mainstreamers that would be watching would back up the uses and gratifications theory.

The magazine cover I have created matches the key conventions of a magazine cover. I have used various conventions of a magazine.  In my magazine I have used a central image which is a picture of Armond, myself. This would be the first thing that the audience would look at, which would hook them in as they identify with the person. The central image is one of the most important things in a magazine cover as it would interest the audience in the magazine and make them want to buy it. The central image must be of a high quality as it would be the first thing the audience see.  I have also used a slogan which would interest the audience about the magazine. I have also included the barcode as it is one of the most important conventions in a magazine cover as this would show that it is a magazine and it is a product. Alongside with the barcode I have also included the price of the magazine, this is also important to the audience as they would be informed of the price if the magazine. I have also made the price small so that it won’t be seen directly as the price should be the last thing on the audiences mind. They should be more interested in the magazine and what it has to offer rather than the price.

We have represented a group of characters in the drama series, they are all male and in their late teens. This group we see that they are usually up to no good representing them in a bad way. Not to say that all of the boys are bad as one of them, Kyle is a good character. This creates a stereotype and reinforces it as we have created a gang of boys that are menaces to society. We have reinforced some stereotypes in the drama series as most of the characters that are bad are males and in their late teens. This backs up dyers theory as we see that there is a common stereotype being used where it’s shown in a negative way. We have also broken the stereotype of young black teenagers being gang leaders. We have done this by using a white teenager who runs gangs around the area in which they live in.

The third brief would have helped raise awareness of the drama series through setting up social network pages. An example of this would be a Facebook page. The Facebook page would have allowed the drama series “Trill” post pictures and videos of behind the scenes footage and exclusive interviews with the actors. This would have meant that audiences would have liked the posts posted by the drama series. They would also be able to share the posts meaning that it would go viral and would be seen by many people. This would have helped raise awareness in E-media platform. We would have also introduced a hash tag where the audiences would have been able to hash tag their pictures on their social networking apps or sites. An example of this would have been Instagram. On Instagram people would be able to post videos and pictures of their favourite characters from the drama series. We would also create a website for the Trill drama so that audiences would be able to visit the website and get any of the latest news on the programme. We would also use some sort of synergy with the hash tag #Trill. This would be displayed on the website along with the characters in the series which is more synergy.

A Field In England

  1. How was A Field In England’s release different to typical film releases?
The film A field In England was released differently to other films. This is because the film was released on all the platforms on the same day. This meant that it had been released on cinema, DVD, Blue ray, On Demand,  Television and also for rent on the official Film 4 website. Normally films would first release the movie in cinemas so that they would be able to make their money first through the cinema platform. Then after 6 months or less the film would be released on DVD and the other platforms. However, for normal movies to be released on DVD it would take a minimum of 2 years approximately to be broadcasted on national television  after the DVD release date.

  1. What are the advantages to releasing the film across all platforms on the same day?
The advantages for releasing the film on all platforms is that the it would be available to all people. As since this is an Arthouse film it would mean that it would be displayed in a few cinemas around the country. This would have meant that they would generate more publicity as it would be talked about more, tweeted more about and so on. through using these social network sites it would generate awareness of the Arthouse film. This would then mean that more people would be interested in watching. Since the movie was only shown in small cinemas this would mean that they would have not been known. this means that since they've released the movie on all platforms no one misses out on the experience to watch the movie. Thus meaning they would be getting loads of reviews all at once. The institutions would also want to make their money back as soon as possible. So then by showing the movie in small cinemas along with selling them on through renting the film out and selling DVD copies they would make their money back.

  1. What are the disadvantages to this approach?
The disadvantages to this approach would be that since the movie has been released on all platforms it would mean that some may lose interest. This is due to the fact that the film would have been broadcasted on Film 4. This would have meant that some of the audience would have seen it once and would decide not to buy the DVD copy. This means that they have lost a few sales on DVD sales. Some may decide to watch the movie online on the 4OD website then meaning people would not have the need to spend money on the film as you could watch it for free any time. However, it will not be on the website for a very long time, it would be on the website for a week maximum.

  1. What target audience would A Field In England be aimed at? Demographics and Psychographics.
The film A Field In England is aimed at a niche audience. This would be

  1. Do you think all films in future will be released across all platforms simultaneously in future?

Ill Manors Official Website

How does the Ill Manors official website promote the film?

The Ill manors website helps promote the film through having links of videos on the website. The videos that are on the website are trailers in which webpage visitors could view the Ill Manors trailer and get an idea of what it's all about. Then they can make a decision to if they would want to purchase the film or not. They could also download the film online by following instructions and by clicking links.

What examples can you find of the Ill Manors brand on the website homepage?

We find out examples of the Ill manors brand through the graffiti on the wall. There we see that the "Ill Manors" has been hash-tagged. We also see the star behind all the work which is Ben Drew also known as Plan B. We also see that there have been quotes used from the film which has been written on the wall by the narrator of the film which is Plan B.

What links does the website offer?

The website offers loads of links in where the webpage user can explore in. On the side of the webpage we have loads of links like trailer, synopsis, video, Ben Drew and many others. Here people would be able to access videos and trailers of the film and behind the scene footage. They could also buy the actual film on the website and order it. Plan B's album is also a link to where people could go and listen in to his songs and could but the whole album through the link.

What examples of synergy can you find between the website homepage and the print/broadcast platforms?

We see a few examples of synergy on the official Ill Manors webpage. We see in the background that the buildings have been used again as they have used the buildings in the print platform many times, to advertise the film. We also have the characters which have even used countless amount of times, the gun is with Aaron the actor Riz Ahmed. This is the macguffin in the whole film and has been put in the website with the character Aaron. There is also more synergy found where we could see that there is the film poster in the background where we see more promotional techniques being used.

List the links to social media on the website homepage. Why are these important?

On the Ill Manors homepage we see that there is a link to social media sites in where the webpage user could share the website to other peoples such as friends and followers. There are only two social media websites that could be used in which are Twitter & Facebook. These social media websites are important in all aspects as they could help promote the film further as they could be shared over and over again as more people view the trailer videos, posters and trailer. These websites would be extremely helpful with raising awareness of the brand and promoting it to a wide range of people all at the same time.

  1. Summarise the Ill Manors Tag London campaign in 100 of your own words.
  2. How does the Ill Manors Tag London campaign help to promote the film?
  3. What links are there between the Tag London campaign and other texts you have studied as part of the Ill Manors case study?
  4. Why might user-generated campaigns like this be more successful than traditional media campaigns?
  5. Choose five of the tweets above and for each one write what target audience the tweet could appeal to (demographics/psychographics) and then link the tweet to one other media text you have studied as part of the Ill Manors case study (TEDx lecture, music video etc.) Justify your link for each tweet using examples from the film/promotional material.

1) The ILL MANORS tag London is all about a crew going around well known landmarks in London and displaying peoples hash-tag tweets. The crew used a projector to project video of a professional graffiti artist to write out the quotes. The video was projected up on buildings around London to get the audiences message across to others, so they may view their thoughts and views on society. This is a user generated method of advertisement meaning its all produced by people themselves in which are targets of the film ILL MANORS.

2) The tag London campaign helps promote the film through the use of hash-tags and the way that they have shown the hash-tags. They have displayed the has tags in graffiti font this relates to the main target audience of the film. This interests the audience in watching the film as it has been advertised in a way which would appeal to them. Also the hash-tags are fully related to the target audience which helps attract the audience through this way of promotion.

3) The Tag London champaign links to many other texts that we have studied. For example, the hash-tags that were displayed some were quotes from the TEDX lecture from plan b. However, have been used by the audiences that have watched or listened to the broadcast platform. They have also targeted with the London Tag campaign at the House Of Parliament, this links in with the magazine cover of where the strap line "David Cameron Be Very Afraid".

4) This would be more successful than traditional campaigns as this is a unique way of advertising. This gives normal people behind computer screens a chance to have a say something in something.  rather than having well known people having a say and their opinions being shared. The Tag London campaign offers out a way in where normal everyday people could get their message across to show others what their believes and views are on the subject.

Learner Response

Question 1:

The institution take an original and positive approach to road safety advertising through the institution using a positive slogan. The slogan in which this institution uses is "embrace life" which is a positive slogan in which has been displayed at the end of the advert. This would be effective towards the viewers as through watching an emotional advert it makes them think about life and how they should embrace it. More importantly, the slogan is completely different to existing road safety campaigns that show people dying or seriously injured in graphic car accidents. Slogans such as 'Think!' are quite aggressive and order the audience to do something. 'Embrace life' has a much softer, more positive feel that appeals to the audience's love of their family rather than fear of death.

Furthermore, the use of family values being promoted in the advertisement portrays family as being life savers. we see this through the few scenes that have been shown where the little girl and the husbands wife both strap on to the husband and save his life. This yet could mean that advert could be trying to say you should embrace your family as well, family is important. One of the original ideas that the institution use is that in most adverts there is an actual seatbelt present. However, not in this advert as it has an original, different idea as they've used the family members as one.

The institution also uses effective techniques which are slow motion shots where we get to see exactly what happens in the accident. This is different to other road safety adverts as they happen too fast emphasising how fast everything could happen within a blink of an eye. This makes the video footage seem more beautiful to watch for the viewers compared to the other frightful adverts which makes us as the audience want to not witness the accident.

Finally, this advert takes an original approach to road safety advertising through the use of physical theatre where the husband acts out the accident whilst the other two family members act as the seat belt saving the father's life. Whereas, other adverts have real life cars and motorbikes to show the accidents that happen and in most of the adverts someone dies or are injured. This is usually shown quite graphically to shock the viewer. In this advertisement, the institution finds a better way of communicating to the audience that seatbelts save lives, not of just their own but of others.

Ill Manors Film Review

Review:
The movie Ill Manors is a low budged film in which had a tight amount of £100,000 to spend on to film the whole movie. In the end the movie came out a success as it won 2 awards for best cinematography, and Coup De Coeur award.  This was due to the hard work of the director Ben (Plan B) and also the actors along with the whole rest of the team who worked hard to produce an award winning film.

The director of the film “Ill Manors” is Ben Drew also known as “Plan B”. The director has not had any previous experience of directing meaning that everything would have been new to him. This would have meant that he may have needed some help as not only was it his first film that he was directing, but he also had a very low budged for the film making. This would have meant he could not have very expensive equipment or so. However, the director Ben is also a rapper which mean that he has seen things been done before behind the cameras from past music videos produced for his music. This may have come across as crazy as making a movie is hard work, in the interview where Ben talks about the film the director mentions how people said he wasn't going to do it. This meant he had a lot of doubts where people doubted the fact that he was going to make a successful film. Personally I think that Ben the director has proved the people who had doubted him were wrong as the film came out a success in Britain, winning two awards and getting nominated 4 times.

The actors used in the film were not well known, even though they played in a few movies in the past. Some of the actors were: Riz Ahmed, Ed Skrein, Natalie Press and Anouska Mond. Some of the actors were completely new to acting as they've never acted in their lives. However they have yet been introduced into the film. An example of an actor in the movie who had no acting experience is Lee Allen who has had no acting experience, he was given the part as the role suited him and his past as some of the things that has happened to him in the film has happened in the past. This means that it will look more real not only that but it shows how what happens in the movie could also be found in society.

The plot of the film is based on about the lives of four drug dealers, a user and a prostitute. We also see the lives of others in which are affected and who associate with the drug dealers, prostitute and the user.  All this is planned out and the characters used in the film are all common stereotypes we associate with in our society. However, in the film we see what influences these common stereotypes to act the way they act and do the things they do. We have the prostitute who is played Michelle who is played by Anouska Mond. She has in the movie been forced to be a prostitute because of her selling on the phone of a drug dealer. The drug dealer is furious about this as he has all his contacts in the phone sold. So then the drug dealer Ed, played by Ed Skrein takes action and starts selling her for sex in the society they live in. after the prostitute is released from prostitution by the drug dealer Ed, she in the end is ruined. So she carry’s on selling herself for money to pay for her drugs. The actor Riz Ahmed on his travels finds a baby on a train abandoned by the mother Katya played by Natalie Press. He then thinks of looking after the baby without a doubt. He faces the fact that he is not a dad and has nothing to give or to provide for the child what does he do next. Fast forwarding later on the baby is trapped in a room in a pub where there is a fire, the baby is all along. Ed hears the baby cry he runs in regretfully into the room upstairs where the baby is. He then gets trapped in the room on the third floor with fire flaming everywhere apart from the window. This shows that stereotypes can come out of their comfort zone and break it, proving others wrong of what they are.

Ill Manors Research

Research all the institutions involved in the production of Ill Manors. List them with a summary of what their contribution to the film was.
There are a few films involved with the making of ill manors. One of the main one in which has helped out the most is the Microwave producers. They are well known for helping out low budget films. They specialise in getting the most out of low budgets. As we can see through the Ill manors film they have. The film had any nominations and won a few awards. The BBC have also contributed to the making of the film which has made it successful. The BBC also work with low budget films.

How much did Ill Manors cost to produce (its budget)?
The Ill manors movie coast £100,000 to make and is known as a low budget film.
How was Ill Manors funded
The writer of Ill Manors Plan B had been refused to be funded with money to go out and make the film as he was inexperienced in directing and everything. So then after he wrote a film and filmed it called Michelle. Then by 2009 the London Microwave institution come and offered Plan B a chance and a small budget to film the film he had wanted to film in the first place.

What is the target audience for Ill Manors?
The target audience for the film ILL manors is mainly for the younger audience of the ages of 17-30. These people would have similarities to the characters in the movie as they could relate with the problems they have in the film. This is also targeted to middle and upper class people as the movie is all about showing what leads people on to the wrong path in life through society abandoning them, making them feel alienated. Also how they are influenced by other bad people.

Who is the main distributor of Ill Manors?
The main distributor was revolver entertainment as the rights of the film were sold to them in 2005. With the 100,000 budget from this in the box office made around 450,000 just in the box office sales.

How was Ill Manors promoted using broadcast platform?
The movie ILL Manors was promoted in many various ways through different platforms. The singer/writer Plan B has been to various events where he had spoken about the new album and also how he has used the album in the new movie which was to be released in 2012. For example Plan B has been on radio shows talking about the album and movie in the BBC Radio 1 talk stations. He had also done a live performance for the BBC singing one of his songs for the viewers on the TV and the live audience with in the BBC studios.

Compare this with a big budget blockbuster. What are the main similarities and differences?
There are big differences between big budget blockbusters and low budget films like Ill Manors. A movie in which was released in 2012 in May same time as Ill Manors was The Avengers Assemble. The Avengers has been very successful it had a budget of $220 million the film had made around $1,518,594,910 just in the box office. Compared to the Ill Manos movie the budget for Ill Manors was £100,000 they made around £450,000. The Avengers was shown all over the world whereas Ill Manors was only shown in the UK which explains such the low profit made. The Avengers also had a much higher budget meaning they could promote their movie very well.

How does the trailer for Ill Manors hook audiences into the narrative and pose questions that the film will answer (Barthes: enigma codes)? Identify 3 ways/techniques.
The film trailer Ill Manors is a great way of hooking the audience in. They have managed to do this through the use of the music building tension interesting the audience. They have also used good editing as the editing was really fast with each shot not being a single second long. This would mean that it would build up enigma codes as they don’t show the whole story. This would make them want to know what will happen making the audience go in to cinemas. They also showed various different stories to the movie showing there’s loads going on.

How does the trailer of Ill Manors balance plot and spectacle?
When viewers see the trailer they’ll understand the plot more through the dialogue being used as we know what’s happening and what kind of situations are taking place. It also does not confuse them as if there was no dialogue there would be confusion to what is happening in the scenes being watched.

Think about the certificate of Ill Manors (18 certificates). Research film certification and outline what is deemed acceptable for this certificate. What is the difference between a 15 certificate and 18 certificates?
The differences between the 15 and 18 certificates are very different.

Ill Manors TEDX Lecture

1) Plan B’s beliefs are that in society today young people are being seen in a negative way, so there for being stereotyped many different things. However he explains how there is two sides to the story, what young people do is bad however they have their reasons for doing what they are doing. He believes that the government does not try hard enough to keep young people off streets as they've been closing community centres down. This would leave the young people out on the streets where they can be influenced by other bad characters into doing things they should not be doing. This is because they have nothing better to do. Plan b explains how they may have problems at home so they feel their home is out on the street where they feel freer to spread their wings, and to do something as they are bored of doing nothing.

2) The target group   for the TEDX lecture would be university students or people who have an interest in lectures. The age range for this would be from 18-50 all these people would have been well educated or are currently being educated at university. This would be of an interest for them as they talk about stuff that may interest them. In this case people are interested in what Plan B has to say about the government and the people with in urban isolated estates with in society. This would be of an interest to them as they would be able to get a person who has been in the same type of situation as the lower class, unemployed, street thug that he was. This would also give the audience a chance to see what he has to say about the government. The demographics that would apply to this would be the A, B AND C1. This is because the only people who are well educated and interested in what others have to say about society and government would be attracted to one of these lectures. Also lectures do go on for quite a while and do contain professional people who use sophisticated vocabulary meaning people who fall under the category of C2,D and E will not fully understand what is being said during the lecture as they lack in knowledge and education. If this was compared to the audience for the music video, the music video would attract an audience of people who are currently unemployed and live in poverty. For those who are have miserable and unfit lives they could connect and relate to his music videos. As all the things that have said in his music videos may be currently happening to them. Whether it’s from the government portraying them in a negative way to the crime that is being committed by them and also others, this would mostly appeal to the E demographic however could apply to the D as well.

3) Plan B explains how the media portrays the young people of society and then explains how society wrongly perceives young people through not showing all that there is to know. What6 plan b mean by this is the media choose not to show both sides to the story, as it would make the story more interesting for people. For example a newspaper agent came to interview plan b about a misunderstanding/conflict between plan b and a group of youth’s that came down to where they were filming, claiming that the place was theirs. The youths were ready to strike at plan b however; help came along as another group of youths came to scare them away, not in violence but by words.  This broke the stereotype of young people that was already out there, yet the media chose not to show the ending of the story.  Leaving the bit where the youths came in violently at plan b, this is only one example of many other situations. He also explains how the media change the meanings of words and label people as “chavs” the word chav meant “boy” however the media have created another meaning for the word. “Council house and violent” is what people see it as now.

Ill Manors Trailer Analysis

Trailer analysis “Ill manors”
What are the typical codes and conventions of film trailers - what information is usually provided?
The typical codes and conventions of a film trailer consist of various shots of typography listing the directors name, actors names, features, music producers, film producers and last but not least the title of the film. Film trailers also consist of music in which is usually parallel to the scenery being shown in the video. They may contain sound bridges with voice overs, the music or dialogue from the film. Film trailers also display the “BBFC” rating in some cases the age restriction has not yet been decided as it may be in progress.

How are trailers distributed?
Film trailers are promoted in various ways, one of which is through broadcast platforms such as television. Television is one of the most common ways of promoting films and raising awareness. They could also use radio to promote the film; this could be done by interviewing a few of the actors or maybe even the director. From this the interviewee could explain about what the whole movie is about and what they could expect form it. The film would also be promoted through the use of cinema adverts. Through cinema adverts it would target all the people who are in cinema this would be beneficial as the people being targeted are people who usually go cinema.

How does Ill Manors use trailer conventions?
The film ill manors use the conventions of film trailers like music for example. The music used in the trailer is from the director himself known as plan b. The music that is used in the trailer has also been used in the movie as well, which gives a little taster for plan b’s fan base as they would be interested in watching it as his music is in the music. The music in the trailer is also parallel music which suits the narrative and scenes. We can tell this by listening to the lyrics where it mentions drugs, violence ect. So through this it makes the sound parallel as the scenes have also violence, drugs and all the other stuff Plan B sings about. The BBFC rating has not been included with in the trailer as it yet has not been decided what age rating it should be given at that moment in time when the trailer was released.

Who is the target audience?

The prime audience for this movie would be teenagers and young adults aged from 17-30. This movie does have techniques where they could hook the audience and persuade them in to watching it through the scenes. The scenes play an important role alongside with the music, though the scenes not being even a second long and the music being dramatic with its lyrics. It would create tension for the audience viewing the trailer and wanting more of the adrenaline impact they get from viewing the trailer. The trailer also shows the main stars in action including Plan B as he is the director, this is yet another reason to why the audience would hook on to the movie as Plan be is featured in it also he was the director. This would automatically mean that his entire fan base would be interested in the movie as he plays a part in it. He is also the voice over Plan B is the narrator of the whole story. The trailer also has a release date informing the audience of when the movie will be released in cinemas.

Ill Manors Documentary

Ill Manors Documentary
What does this tell us about Plan B's intentions in making the film?
Plan b explains about how he sets out on a mission to show viewers what goes on around in society and how normal people are portrayed through the use of stereotyping. Ben the director has included very stereotypical characters in his film. However, he shows how they get to where they are being in life and why people are tagged the way they are through their actions and decisions in life. Ben also says that it is because these people are not shown any “love” which could explain why people come out the way they do.
What do we learn about the production process for Ill Manors?
We had learned that there were some difficulties filming as the urban areas in forest gate was run and filed by gangs. The film crew had difficulty filming the scenes they needed so they were being scared off in the matter. However, the director managed to sort it out with some confrontation through using his own people to sort out an agreement. This shows to us that there are gangs out there in which are violent and the film that’s being filmed or has been is based on real life situations. As these type of situations that’s occurred actually happen with in society.

What can you tell about the possible target audience from this short documentary?
This documentary was probably aimed at the reformers in which being people of a middle wealthier class. This is because the documentary shows what the director has set out to do and the audience can view the director’s opinions and beliefs. The actors also are opinionated on what the movie consists of and what it’s set out to do. From this the audience can get a sense of what the film is actually trying to do, it’s not trying to show how evil these people in society are but what lies behind them showing what led them in the wrong path they are walking on.

Does the film successfully do what director Ben Drew (Plan B) set out to achieve? Explain your answer with reference to both the film and the making of documentary

The mission that Ben has set out on he has personally I think accomplished. This is because the movie in which he has created has included real life situation in which real people actually go through in life and society. These people are the people that are seen as outcasts and stereotypically tagged. Ben shows these stereotypes through the use of his characters in his film however he does not show just the one side of the story. He shows what has led them to where they are in life for viewers to get a better understanding of what has become of these people living in urban isolated estates.

Ideology

How does the video challenge or reinforce dominant ideology in Britain?

The video reinforces many ideologies that are in Britain in which are dominant common stereotypes about youths. Some of these ideologies are to be young people in which are violent towards the community and to themselves. This we see in the music video. We also see young people vandalising the community by blowing up and smashing stuff up. This reinforces the stereotype. We also see young youths stealing TVs and electrical products. The video does also challenge the ideologies in Britain, we see an example of this when a middle aged man throws an egg at a politician. This challenges it as it was not a young youth who had violated the politician it was a middle aged man. We also saw the police ganging up on a single person. This breaks the ideology of the police being fare to others and being in the right, as at that moment in time they were in the wrong. This is because five police officers went to strike at a single unarmed civilian. We also encountered on a video footage taken of a police officer punching and assaulting a member of the community.

Dr Who Magazine Analysis

Title of publication:
The title of the magazine is imprinted at the top of the magazine as that’s where all the titles go. The title of the magazine is “doctor who” this typography has been overlapped by the character. This shows to us that the doctor who is a well-known brand series winning loads of awards. This meant that the title does not need to be fully shown as it will be easily recognisable by the audience through its font and colour. The colour of the title is in sliver and along with a futuristic font which connotes fantasy/sci-fi.

Slogan:
The slogan shows that the series has been going on for a very long time, “50” years of filming. The “50 years” has been highlighted and has been structured in a bold font; this may show the audience on how much experience they have had. The colour of the font is gold maybe showing 50 years of success. The slogan in the end has an exclamation mark added to create an exciting effect for the audience making them more enthusiastic and engaged with the magazine, not making it dull and boring.

Central image:
The central image is of three characters in which are the doctors, which may build confusion for the audience. This would create an enigma for the audience as it leaves them with a question to how there are three doctors in the latest series of doctor who. This would make them want to find of why and buy the magazine as it may hold the answer. All three of the characters are all looking towards the camera giving a sense of the characters looking at the audience or the customer who’d want to buy the magazine; this is an example of direct mode of address.

Flash/cover lines:
The flash cover lines that have been used in the magazine are “THE DAY OF THE DOCTOR!”. The word “DOCTOR!” has been capitalised and at the end of the word it’s also included an exclamation mark, this signifies the importance of the doctor as the doctor is the main protagonist in the series. The word connects with the central image as there are three doctors in the image showing that it’s all about these tree protagonists. Giving the audience an idea of what the series may consist of or could potentially foreshadow something about what may happen in future.

Free offer:
The magazine offers a variety of free gifts and items which could potentially lure that audience in and make them buy the magazine through free items, or in this case free downloads.  The magazine also offers free special collector cards with pictures of previous doctors all the way from the 1960s. The magazine also offers an opportunity where someone could win doctor who blu-rays, dvds, books and cds. This yet again tries to lure the audience into buying the magazine through offering free products/items that comes with the magazine itself.

Colour scheme:

The colours in which the magazines have used are black, red, blue and bronze. This would be effective, as through keeping the colours simple and not using any more it would attract the audience as it does not look too tacky. It would create a certain mood so that the audience can sink in to so that they do not get confused of the other colours in which are not necessary. The colour red is mainly used to promote and make the brilliant fantastic offers stand out from everything else. As this is the main thing that would get the audiences attention and interest, this acts as a hook.

Photoshop videos

The first video showed me how i could add gradient to a text and also the pictures on to my magazine covers, in which is very useful. it also showed how i could find different type of fonts in the programme. This included how to glow a text, and also change the shapes and make them in to 3D fonts and sizes and so on. It also showed me how to create a barcode and also the numbers with in it to make the magazine cover look more realistic.
The second video that I viewed was all about showing how to make different type of layers in photoshop including with it effects in which would make the image look more realistic and not fake. more professional and less amateurish. it also showed how i could remove a background with out having to ruin the centre image in which is vitally important as it would be the main eye attraction of the magazine.

Individual Progress
I have been busy with arranging a shot list. The shots list consists of round about 50 shots and  is about 2 minutes long. We have used a variety of different shots like close ups, long shots, medium shots, long shots, over shoulder shots and many more.
WWW- I have succeeded in producing a clear storyboard which worked and is well planned out.

EBI- I had to put it in a table so that it looks more professional.

The Next Step
The next step is to actually film the production with all the characters and in the scene.

Group Progress
As a group we have managed to finish all the pre-production work and finalise our cast and location, our script is complete and the basic storyboards are complete with the shot lists.

WWW- we were able to work cohesively as a group and manage to assimilate our work together and create a good plan.

EBI- Our communication skills need work and we need to show up after school to work together more.

Next step

Our next step is to film our production.
